Whether you're laughing, crying or, yes, even sleeping, your brow and forehead are constantly moving - wrinkling, stretching, expanding and contracting. All of this activity leaves its mark...literally. Deep forehead wrinkling, and horizontal and vertical frown lines are a common result.

About Brow Lifts

But these problems can often be corrected through a brow lift, as part of a forehead lift. One of the biggest benefits of a forehead lift is that the surgeon can address the underlying tissue and muscles, as well as the skin. This helps create a more natural, lasting result. It also has another important benefit. By altering some of the underlying muscles, the surgery can actually prevent many frown and worry lines from returning.

Every forehead lift also includes a brow lift. Sagging, drooping eyebrows appear as heaviness around the eyes. People with moderate to extreme drooping are often described as looking sad, tired and unhappy. When the brow is lifted, the tired, sad look may disappear completely, brightening the entire face.

The surgery is only mildly invasive. The incisions are carefully closed and very effort is made to keep the scarring to a minimum, often hidden along or above the hairline. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis, with local anesthesia and sedation. It takes from one to two hours.

After Your Brow Lift

After surgery, you should be up in a day or so. Any pain or discomfort you experience can usually be controlled with medication. The sutures come out within a week and the bruising and swelling will subside within five to ten days. You can usually return to work in seven to ten days, but you should avoid more strenuous activity for several more weeks. You may experience some numbness, but this almost always subsides within a few weeks.

The results of a good brow and forehead lift should last for years. Five to ten years is the average, and, if you wish, the procedure can be repeated as needed.

The Cost of Brow Lifts

$2,846 is the national average cost for a brow lift, though accounts for the physician's fee only. The total cost for a procedure may vary by physician and include additional fees for anesthesia, surgical center or hospital stay, supplies, and other necessities.
